Natural Pigments and the Imagination

With Vija Docherty

Many artists find that the Imagination likes nothing better than to work within some limitations. In fact, these so-called limitations are often the very thing that opens our doors to the infinite. With this in mind, we will paint with a palette of natural, hand-ground water colour paints (yellow ochre, red ochre, madder, buckthorn berry, and oak gall ink); asking the colours themselves: “Who are you? Where are you from? How may we be of service to one another?”

Vija Docherty is a practising artist, illustrator, art and craft teacher and colour researcher. She is currently exploring the discipline of making art using handmade water colour paintsand inks. She is especially interested in pondering with others deep questionsaround the nature of colours and our relationships with them.
