Experiencing the Unity of Colour

This talk and demonstration is a prelude to the experience COLOUR exhibition this autumn at the Glasshouse in Stourbridge, hosted by the Ruskin Mill Trust.

Newton explained the rainbow by analyzing it into parts. Goethe showed that there was another way that starts from the unity of colour phenomena. We will demonstrate Goethe’s approach using colour projectors and a novel prismatic setup.

Troy Vine is currently working on the philosophical bases of Goethe’s scientific method at Humboldt University in Berlin. Alasdair Gordon has developed a teaching method based on Goethe’s scientific method at Ruskin Mill’s Field Centre.
